“As part of our continued partnerships with the USGA and The PGA of America, we are developing unique new programs that enhance the world of golf and focus on our Cardmembers’ passion for improving their games,” said Rich Lehrfeld, Vice President Sponsorship and Event Marketing, American Express. “Through our newly enhanced Members Clubhouse, our Cardmembers can do everything from getting their hands on hard-to-get championship tickets and advice on golf equipment to exclusive instructional content from some of golf’s most talented professionals.”
Plan Ahead: Your Ticket to Upcoming Championships
Having made history as the first corporate partner of the United States Golf Association (www.usga.org), as well as becoming an official patron of The PGA of America (www.pga.com), American Express is now offering to Cardmembers a host of premium golf experiences and benefits at two of the major golf championships:
2009 U.S. OPEN – Cardmembers can log on to the Members Clubhouse at www.americanexpress.com/golf for the exclusive opportunity to purchase daily Trophy Club tickets to the 2009 U.S. Open Championship being held June 18-21 at Bethpage State Park (Black Course) in Farmingdale, N.Y.; tickets traditionally are only available in weekly packages for USGA Members or through a random drawing.

Sharpen Skills: Advice and Instruction from the Experts
American Express has joined forces with three preeminent figures in the world of golf, Jim Furyk, Morgan Pressel and Davis Love III, to provide exclusive insight and advice to help golfers improve their games and add to their overall enjoyment of the sport. Jim, Morgan and Davis will also appear in print and online ads this summer.
Jim Furyk – Ranked among the top players in the world and widely known for his distinctive swing, Furyk will provide his take on how to make the most of your own skill set and become the best golfer you can be. Furyk will also discuss some of his favorite courses and preferred methods for preparing for golf’s most challenging events. Furyk is the 2003 U.S. Open® Champion and a five-time Ryder Cup® competitor.
Morgan Pressel – A champion and fearless competitor since her days in junior golf, Pressel set a USGA record in 2001 when she became the then youngest woman at that time to play the U.S. Women’s Open® at just 12 years old. She later became the youngest woman in LPGA Tour history to win a major championship, the 2007 Kraft Nabisco, at the age of 18. Pressel, who is also passionate about fashion and style, will contribute on a wide variety of golf and related fashion topics.
Davis Love III – Expanding his long-time relationship with American Express, Love will share his perspective from a lifetime of experience in the game. Love will provide insight on topics such as golf course architecture, instruction and growing up learning golf from his father, a renowned PGA professional. Love is the 1997 PGA champion and a six-time Ryder Cup competitor and was a member of the victorious 1985 USA Walker Cup team.
To further encourage participation in the game of golf, American Express and The PGA of America created the Friend of a Cardmember1 program that enables Cardmembers to connect with experts at courses across the country to improve their game and share this experience with a friend. This new player initiative allows Cardmembers who purchase instruction from PGA Professionals using their American Express® Card to bring along a guest at no additional cost. In addition, American Express also provides Cardmembers preferred tee times at select properties across the country.
