Solvay Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announced today that Stephen Hill, B.M., B.Ch., M.A., F.R.C.S., president and chief executive officer, has been named to the Board of Directors of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA). Hill was elected to serve a three-year term through April 2011.
PhRMA represents the country’s leading pharmaceutical research and biotechnology companies, which are devoted to inventing medicines that allow patients to live longer, healthier, and more productive lives.
“I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues on the Board of PhRMA to further the organization’s mission, address issues facing Solvay Pharmaceuticals and the entire industry and most importantly, help improve the lives of the patients we serve,” said Hill.

Before joining Solvay, Hill most recently served as president and CEO of biotechnology firm ArQule, Inc. since 1999. Prior to his position at ArQule, Hill was the Head of Global Drug Development at F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd. from 1997-1999. He joined Roche in 1989 as Medical Adviser to Roche Products in the United Kingdom and held several senior positions there that included U.K. Medical Director and Head of International Drug Regulatory Affairs at Roche headquarters in Basel, Switzerland. Hill is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and holds his scientific and medical degrees from St. Catherine’s College at Oxford University.
