NRG Energy, Inc. (NYSE: NRG) announced that it is commencing mailing of definitive proxy materials to NRG stockholders for the Company’s Annual Meeting on July 21, 2009. Stockholders of record at the close of business on Monday, June 15, 2009, are entitled to notice of, and to vote at, the annual meeting.

The NRG Board of Directors recommends stockholders re-elect its four experienced and highly qualified independent directors and support the Board’s ongoing efforts to create additional value by promptly voting the WHITE proxy card by telephone, Internet or mail. NRG also asks that stockholders disregard any blue proxy card sent by Exelon Corporation and vote against Exelon’s proposal to expand the NRG Board.
